Oral Cancer Screening Sanctuary Cove

The risk of developing oral cancer dramatically increases after you turn 50.

People between the ages of 60-70 are most at risk from this disease, with oral cancer contributing to 6.5% of all cancers in Australia. Early detection is paramount to successfully beat oral cancer, with a 70% survival rate for those who are diagnosed with oral cancer in its early stages, compared to a 30% survival rate if the cancer has spread.

Symptoms of oral cancer

It is important to be aware of the early warning signs of oral cancer, as pain is not usually an early symptom. Symptoms associated with oral cancer include:

  • Small red or white lesions in the mouth, lips or tongue
  • Ulcers that do not heal
  • Difficulty chewing, swallowing or speaking
  • Persistent earaches
  • Numb areas in your mouth or on your face

Oral cancer screening

Fortunately, at our dental practice located on the Gold Coast, we perform oral cancer screenings during your regular check-up. Even if you have lost all of your natural teeth, you should still visit our practice for a regular oral exam to check for signs of oral cancer or other oral health issues. This allows time for early intervention treatment, and if oral cancer is present these appointments could literally save your life.
