Grinding Appliances Sanctuary Cove

Teeth grinding will often occur without the sufferer even noticing

More than half of children afflicted with teeth grinding (bruxism) will cease to grind their teeth on their own by the age of 13. Nocturnal bruxism is tooth grinding that occurs during sleep, and sufferers are typically unaware that they are suffering tooth damage as they slumber.

Nocturnal bruxism often occurs in sufferers on average of 25 times per night, in episodes that last four to five seconds. This means that the teeth of people with bruxism can be exposed to more than two minutes of grinding every night. This causes extensive damage to oral health and presents a variety of uncomfortable symptoms including:

  • Earaches
  • Jaw pain
  • Facial and neck pain
  • Disturbed sleep
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold drinks

An imperfect bite is usually the cause behind tooth grinding

Factors such as stress, anxiety, oral trauma, diet, some medications and health issues can all contribute to teeth grinding. Naturally, if your grinding is a result from stress then you should learn relaxation techniques and stress management.

At Sanctuary Cove Dental, we use oral custom-designed mouth guards to reduce tooth grinding.

This helps reduce the pressure of tooth grinding and helps prevent further damage to your teeth. At our Gold Coast dental practice, we may also be able make adjustments to your teeth in order to achieve a better bite, and reduce the subconscious effort you are making.

To Note: Any dental procedure carries risks which also may depend on your general health. This will be discussed with you prior to any dental intervention.

Before proceeding you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner such as your dentist or your doctor.
