Children’s Dentistry Gold Coast
With proper care from an early age, your child can achieve optimal oral health for life!
Children should first visit the dentist after their first birthday, or 6 months after their teeth first erupt- whichever comes first. This is a great way to form a healthy relationship with your dentist, and to check for issues such as baby bottle tooth decay. This can be done during your regular check-up, and routine check-ups for your child should follow every six months.
Oral hygiene tips for children
- Never put your child to sleep with a bottle of juice or milk. Due to lower salivary flow during sleep and higher susceptibility to cavities and plaque, this can encourage a whole night of tooth decay.
- Clean your infant’s gums with a clean, damp cloth twice a day.
- When teeth come in, begin brushing them with a small, soft-bristled toothbrush and a small dab of low fluoride toothpaste.
- By approximately age 5, your child can learn to brush his or her teeth with proper parental instruction and supervision.
